Phoenix Snow Songs

Seeing snow in Phoenix happens more often than people might think. In fact, about every ten years, there’s a moment in the middle of winter, when the temperature might crack the 32 degree barrier during a rainstorm, and several flakes might even touch one’s jacket before they melt away. It’s never been a good city to see the snow, but for seeing Snow Songs , there’s nowhere better.

Phoenix has been one of the underrepresented cities for great indie music. The atmosphere is right, where the number of creative people is well past the critical mass, and spaces are still relatively cheap to rent for the night. When one has a reputation like Snow Songs, however, with their chilling and inviting melodies that blend Latin rhythms with a mix of ambient alt rock, it’s a little easier to get gigs.

They play at places like the Lost Leaf , which might look a little off-putting to guests in Phoenix luxury hotels . It’s in the heart of Roosevelt’s art district, and what looks like a hole in the wall from the outside is really a terrific space on the inside. An old house converted to a bar and band place, the local hipsters hang out with the out of towners in a lovely harmony, one that matches the band.
