Cheap Staycations

Posted: June 23rd, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home | No Comments »

A lot of people are experiencing hard times financially, and they do not believe that they have the means to go on a vacation this summer. It is not necessary that people leave town in order to enjoy themselves on their vacations; they can have a good time right in their home towns in what has been come to be known as a staycation. A staycation can be easy to plan.

How to Find Fun Things to Do

Practically every city in the country has a website. These websites are the places to go to find out what is going on in the city. For example, those who are looking for an inexpensive event to attend may click on the city website’s link to the museums in the area.

A list of museums comes up, and people can click on the link to the museum of choice. From there, they will be taken to the museum’s website where they can find out how much it costs to see the museum’s exhibits. If the price is to these people’s liking, they can plan accordingly to visit this particular venue.

Another way to find free or inexpensive events to attend is by performing a search on a search engine. All people need to do is type in words to the effect of “find free events,” and several results will come up. These events will commonly advertise on the Internet, and people can find out what the events are about as well as how to get there.

Credit Cards That Make Saving Money Possible

• Some credit cards offer rewards for those who pay their balances in full every month.
• Another great perk offered by Chase is the ability to receive credit scores from all three credit bureaus every month. (Consumers are only entitled to receive a free credit report from each credit bureau once every year.)
• Those who obtain a Disney rewards credit card receive discounts on entry to the theme parks, on merchandise in the stores and they can purchase their Disney vacations with 0 percent financing.
• Credit cards such as Capital One offer customers cash rebates for purchasing their items with the credit card. American Express Blue Cash and Discover also give people hefty cash rewards for utilizing their credit cards.
• Some credit cards, like Discover, give their customers gift cards that double the amount they earned in cash back rewards. These cards can be used at the store of their choice.
• Sports-related credit cards give customers the ability to earn points when they make purchases with the cards. These points entitle them to free tickets to games and maybe even access to the VIP lounges.

Unsecured Credit Cards

Those who are having money troubles may have those troubles because they have experienced a bankruptcy. In that case, they may not be able to qualify for the credit cards listed above. The alternative for these people is to acquire unsecured credit cards.

Unsecured credit cards are credit cards that do not have anything backing them as collateral. People with low credit scores can qualify for these credit cards if they agree to pay a higher interest rate. This will not necessarily be a problem for those who acquire them if they make the determination that they will pay their balances in full every month.

Unsecured credit cards can help people enjoy their staycations, because they allow them to pay for things without having to carry around a lot of cash. If they use them to purchase only the items they know they can afford, they will also begin to rebuild their credit.

How To Avoid Online Auto Sales Scams

Posted: June 3rd, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Automotive | No Comments »

The story may seem familiar: the consumer is looking to buy some sort of big ticket item. A car, truck, or perhaps an RV. Whatever. The Internet and various companies have sprung up over the past couple of decades which facilitates these types of transactions. In fact, companies like Ebay, Craigslist, and a number of smaller auction sites, have not only opened up marketplaces, they have legitimately created a world wide trading zone allowing one to purchase just about anything they might desire.

auto salesNow enter the “too good to be true” deal. The saying is a familiar one as well. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Combine this with the facilities available online, and the environment is now created for scam operators to take advantage of buyers simply looking for an exceptional bargain.

The following list outlines just a few of the most glaring conditions one should be aware of when in the market for a big ticket item:

  • Extremely Low Pricing: With just a little bit of comparison shopping it is easy to have a firm grasp on current market values for an item. The allure of many scams is the amazingly low price associated with something that should be much more expensive under normal conditions. And that’s the rub. There is always a story which comes along to explain why the price is so low. The reasons vary from needing to make a mortgage payment to emergency medical treatments. If the price seems too low and there is a sob story, buyer beware.
  • Lack of Legitimate Contact Information: Since the seller creates the ads on Craigslist.org they decide what contact information is included or not. If the ad does not have a phone number of address of where the vehicle is located, again, beware. One common tactic here is the ad poster will claim to be in the military and/or traveling outside of the country, so contact is impossible.
  • Image Ads On Craigslist: Some scammers are so lazy they won’t even take the time to copy and paste or just type in the text copy of an ad. Instead they simply make a screen grab of someone else’s legitimate ad and post the entire image, vehicle photos, text, etc. While not always a dead give away, many folks who’ve gotten cheated report this was how the original ad they responded to was crafted.
  • Use of Escrow Services: Theoretically a service which receives payment from a buyer and waits until both parties are satisfied before releasing funds to the seller are a fine way of transacting businesses. Real estate, fine art, and many other legitimate businesses have performed sales this way for centuries. In the online scam, however, the seller will attempt to soothe the buyer’s concerns by indicating they will transact the purchase through such a service. A very popular scam technique is for a buyer to be told by a Craigslist seller they will be using Ebay as their escrow service. This should be an immediate red flag as Ebay absolutely does not provide these type of transaction services.
  • Beware of Money Orders: While there are some very legitimate uses of money order services, the amount of legitimate online transactions which use Western Union or Money Gram are dwindling. Paypal, and other similar online payment systems are much safer and usually have the backing of the company to protect against fraud. Money laundering based upon the sale of big ticket items listed on Ebay or Craigslist (items which usually do not exist, by the way) can get even innocent parties in trouble with local, state and federal authorities. If requirements of a purchase state you must send money to an unknown third party in this or any other country, reconsider your purchase.
  • Desiring To Get the Amazing Deal: Consumers who are obsessed with getting the too good to be true deals are usually the primary targets for these sorts of online scams. Understand that within certain parameters, things cost what they cost. Certainly there are the occasional good deals, but anything beyond a reasonable “good” should be suspect.

There is no denying the fact that the royal wedding that occurred last week will be one of the most watched and remarkable of the entire century. There was a special feeling in the air, as was reported by diverse members of the public crowd, that inspired a sense of social hope in addition to happiness wishes for the young couple. Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton were the young couple who represented a new hope for the future of Britain as well as the rest of the world. And for couples in the near future who will glide their tungsten wedding bands across each others’ fingers, they are likely to remember this momentous occasion.

And while the important inspirational status attached to the couple might seem like a burden to bear, it was actually the symbolic nature of the wedding, and the youth and progressive spirit of the couple that was the significant elements involved. They did not assume the position of hope, it was inherent to the event. In addition, this wedding was filled with a sense of honor and remembrance for William’s, and his younger brother Harry , mother Princess Diana. She too represented beauty and gave the world a sense of hope and much of the world has embraced her two sons in a unique emotional context. The general public doesn’t know them, of course, but watched as the two young boys followed their mother’s casket to Westminster Abbey . As the two princes stood at the abbey’s alter, a generation was able to have a sense of closure on the tragic event which took their mother’s life. And the wedding itself was full of beauty and celebration.

Getting Value When Buying Tires

Posted: April 4th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Money Management | Tags: | No Comments »

In this economy everyone wants to make sure they are getting value for the money they spend. This is doubly true when investing in larger ticket items, like car tires. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to figure out what is a good deal when there are so many different tires and packages out there.

Value is a function of price and purpose. Everyone wants to get a great deal on high quality toyo tires – and there are lots of places to find those deals. However, paying a premium price for tires that turn out to be cheaply made is what everyone fears will happen. The goal is to get the best tires for the lowest available price. Only then will the driver have no regrets.

Doing a little research before starting shopping is the best way to achieve this. Thinking about the roads, environmental conditions like rain and snow, and type of driving the tires will be subjected to is important in determining the best tires to buy for a car . Performance and tire life are directly related to these factors. For example, there’s no reason to pay for high performance tires if normal driving doesn’t warrant them.

In addition to the way tires function, their look is an importance consideration for many drivers. They may be tempted to spend more money on a set of fancy chrome rims than the tires themselves. They need to weigh very carefully how much style is worth and not be seduced into breaking the bank over something that is essentially cosmetic.

Golf Management as a Career

Posted: March 21st, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Careers | Tags: | No Comments »

A business degree used to reflect an understanding of general business principles . Students were expected to master everything from marketing to sales to accounting as well as big picture elements like strategic planning. They could then take those skills and apply them in any industry. Over the past few decades business has become increasingly specialized, and the degrees offered by universities and business schools have become more and more specialized to meet those demands.

Students at a golf management school know this fact all too well. They have realized that it isn’t enough to study general business. If they want to improve their chances of getting top jobs in the golf industry, they need to complete a degree program that teaches them to understand the specific challenges associated with this competitive and recreational sport.

Golf management degree programs will include coursework on hospitality, sales, and business management. All of these are important parts of running a golf club or working in tour management. Other key subjects of study are grounds and landscape management or agriculture, marketing, and golf itself. Students are expected to take instruction to improve their game along with their classroom work. They also undertake an internship in their final year of study to provide them with hands on experience and the opportunity to put the theory they have learned into practice in preparation for starting their new career .

Travel Insurance Serves a Purpose

Posted: March 16th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Travel | Tags: | No Comments »

Ignore the naysayers that argue that insurance is a scam. All it takes is one accident, illness, or other disaster to prove that insurance can be the only thing that can keep financial collapse at bay. Of course, the best case involves policy holders paying for insurance that they never need. However, when weighed against the opposite, needing insurance and not having it, the premiums they pay are worth every penny when disaster strikes.

Travel insurance is one of those things that most people think they can skip. They are wrong. Just because they are heading to foreign lands doesn’t mean that the risks associated with everyday life disappear. Cars still crash and people slip and fall. Food poisoning and the odd virus can all be severe enough to require medical treatment. In fact, the chance of the latter happening increases when one is exposed to foreign germs and foods. With travel also comes the risk of losing luggage, having travel documents stolen or being stranded by transportation delays or failures.

A good travel policy is going to provide relief in all those situations — as well as many others. By taking the time to research the polices offered by Reliance travel insurance and similar companies, travelers can easily find a policy that will provide the comprehensive travel coverage they need. Then they can head on their trip secure in the knowledge that they are ready for anything.

How to Sell Your Truck Quickly

Posted: March 11th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Automotive | No Comments »

Selling a truck is not simple, but if you follow a process  you can sell yours as quickly as a well established used truck dealer could. Here you will find everything you need to know about how to advertise your truck, name a price and negotiate to get the highest possible profit from your sale.

Step 1 – Know the Market
Before you begin, research whether your truck is going to be easy to sell by gauging the current demand for what you have to offer. See what other used trucks for sale are going for. Once you know the market, you will be able to judge if people are going to fight for your truck or have to lower the price to sell. It will also help you determine your leverage with a potential buyer (do they have to buy, do you have to sell, etc.). Also, take note of the condition of other trucks and how that affects the listed price.

To sell a sports truck or convertible, for example, there will typically be a higher demand for something flashy rather than old and clunky. The buyers will come to look once you place an ad out there, but remember, the winter months are usually quite slow, especially if you live in a colder climate so you may want to wait until the warmer months.

Collector trucks usually take longer to sell but the reward may be worth the extra time and effort. It is difficult to put a price on this type of truck because it is desired by a very specific customer, but equally, if you find the right buyer, you can bring in a lot of money when he or she comes along.

Step 2- Advertise a Competitive Price
When pricing your truck you must do it in a reasonable way to compete with other trucks on the market. You don’t want to go too high with your asking price or too low, it’s a rather delicate line to walk. You must consider many issues when putting a price on your truck, such as mileage, condition, color, model, year, etc.  Definitely worth an hour or so of your time to determine the market for your truck.

Step 3 – Fix your truck for the big day
Before you advertise, your truck must be fully prepared both externally and internally. In addition to working perfectly, the truck should be immaculate in appearance since it is likely that a potential buyer will decide whether or not to buy in the first seconds of their visit. If you have the truck in perfect condition you will be able to make a favorable first impression.

Step 4 – Where will you advertise your truck?
Once you have your truck in perfect condition, it is finally time to put it on the market! Your target demographic for the truck will dictate where to place ads.  If you’re selling a truck that would be of interest to older folks, then you may want to advertise your truck in the newspaper classified ads because they are inexpensive, often give great results, and do a good job of reaching that demographic. You could also look at something like Craigslist or other classified ads on the Internet for a more broad reach.

Step 5 – Be very detailed
When you list your truck in whatever advertising venue you choose, make sure to state clearly what sets your truck apart and why someone want to buy it. Include clear pictures as many people are not interested in reading ads if they cannot see the actual truck.

Most importantly, be patient and aware of used truck market changes. If you follow these tips and put forth the effort, you will be rewarded with extra cash in your hand and the buyer will drive away with a great purchase!
