Museum lovers who visit New Orleans may think they’ve died and gone to heaven. The city has a long and eclectic past and is the melting pot of a variety of influences. All of which comes together in a perfect combination to create the ideal environment for recording, preserving, and sharing those influences and history. History museums in New Orleans range from the Tulane Museum of Natural History and the National World War II Museum to the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park, and the Amistad Research Center. Multicultural museums include the Backstreet Cultural Museum and the New Orleans African American Museum.

Art museums are a great way to spend a day. There’s the Diboll Gallery at Loyola, the Contemporary Art Center, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Families will enjoy the Louisiana Children’s Museum and natural “museums” such as the Audubon Zoo, the Aquarium of the Americas, and the Insectarium.

New Orleans is also home to a few one-of-a-kind museums. These include religious sites such as the Old Ursuline Convent and the National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos as well Mardi Gras collections at The Persbytere and Mardi Gras World.
