Eco-Friendly Weddings

When every other commercial on television is touting the latest eco-friendly product or service, it’s no surprise that even events like weddings are becoming more and more green. Planning a wedding with minimal environmental impact may be a little more work, but there are a few shortcuts to make it easier.

The easiest step is to do as much reusing and re-purposing as possible. This ranges from choosing a preowned wedding dress to choosing a theme for the reception that reuses decorations from a previous event.

Next up is choosing an outdoor venue and forgoing outdoor heaters, misters, or other climate control options. Have the wedding during the day, so that electric lights aren’t needed, and make sure that any food brought to the site is heated with sternos rather than electric heating pans. Do make sure there’s a zero impact commitment so that all waste is removed from the premises — that means no throwing rice or confetti at the happy couple.

Of course, the most eco-friendly wedding is going to be one without any frills at all. Held in regular or borrowed clothes in someone’s backyard or out in a park with minimal guests, no decorations, and acoustic music. For some, will sound like a dream wedding.
