Artists and art lovers alike consider New York to be the mecca for the American art world. With hundreds of studios and galleries, the Big Apple has been home to the best and brightest artists, whether residents or visitors, all gathering to create, to collaborate, to teach and to learn. It’s no wonder that the city has developed some of the greatest art museums and brought together some of the best art collections in the world.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art contains over two million square feet, encompassing everything from the best Egyptian collection outside of Cairo and the world’s most extensive collection of American Art. There are enough paintings, drawing, sculpture, costumes, photographs and artifacts to keep new york hotel visitors busy for days. However, there are plenty of other museums art lovers won’t want to miss.

No art trip to New York would be complete without stops at the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) and the Guggenheim Museum. Both contain extensive collections, with the MoMA being the center of modern art in the world. Don’t forget to check out the contemporary art featured at Whitney Museum of American Art and to stop by the International Center of Photography.
